Theiss Scholarship established Friends of the Theiss family asked that the Trinity community become aware of the following scholarship: An endowed scholarship has been set up at Murray State University in honor of Shelby Theiss, sister of Trinity senior Mitch Theiss, who recently passed away. Once the fund reaches $25,000, it will be fully endowed and the fund will self-perpetuate from interest. In this way, Shelby’s memory can live on for years to come, and that memory can be shared with other youth who can learn from her beautiful example. The goal is twofold: 1) To keep the memory, light and love of Shelby alive and present in a world that continues to need her example. 2) To further the educational pursuits of similarly minded young people as they set out to make their own difference in the lives of those around them. Anyone who would like to participate in the funding of this endowment in memory of Shelby, and in support of her family, please follow the instructions below: All checks should be made payable to the Murray State University Foundation – or MSU Foundation. A note in the memo field of the check (Shelby Theiss Memorial Scholarship), or a note with the donation that the gift is for the scholarship, will alert the gift entry person to post it to the scholarship account. Gifts should be sent to Office of Development, Attn: Jamie Haynes, 200 Heritage Hall, Murray, KY 42071. The Murray State University Foundation is a Kentucky non-profit 501 (C)(3) corporation so gifts to the scholarship will be tax-deductible and donors will receive an official IRS regulated receipt. The Office of Development handles gift entry for the Foundation. Here is the website for the Foundation in case you need additional information: http://www.murraystate.edu/HeaderMenu/Administration/foundation.aspx All memorial gifts are acknowledged to the family without disclosing gift amounts, usually on a monthly basis. Additionally, a report of all donors to the scholarship will be sent to the family on a quarterly basis. Spring blood drive yields 100 usable pints Blood drive coordinator Mrs. Mary Mason provided an update on the blood drive held on Wednesday. Mason thanked the administration for allowing two blood drives every year. “Thanks to those members of Dante House who worked all day at the drive. Thanks to the maintenance crew for helping with the setup and clean up. Thanks to Mrs. (Mickey) Engelbrecht and Mrs. (Betty) Roth for all their help keeping up with all of our donor students! “Thanks to the faculty for putting up with students missing class for this vital community project. Thanks to those of you who donated blood and those who attempted to donate. I don’t have a final number, but I know we hit 100 usable pints. Thanks again for giving of yourself and making Trinity’s spring blood drive a success! We encourage you to be repeat donors! You can donate again after 56 days for a regular donation or 16 weeks if you gave double red. Thanks again – and God bless!” Mason also cited an opportunity made possible by the Red Cross: “Last summer the Red Cross offered a $500 college scholarship to a current junior who would help to organize and recruit donors for a summer blood drive. We are told that they will again be offering this opportunity. When more information is received, we will make announcements.” Update on Jarrett’s Joy Cart collection These are the last few days for Jarrett’s Joy Cart. The drive will end Monday, Mar. 25. If anyone has any toys to bring in, please do so by Monday. Please bring all toys to room S251 for counting and packaging. As of today, there are an estimated 400-500 toys located in S251, and there is plenty of room for more. Two more service opportunities Attention all students interested inservice work and service hours: even if you couldn’t make the Spring Break service-day trip, there are still other opportunities to help the community! Mr. Mike Budniak is organizing work with Operation Brightside for Mayor Greg Fisher’s Service Day on Saturday, Apr. 13. The group will be cleaning a section of Westport Road around Westport Middle School from 9-11 a.m. that day. If clean-up isn’t your thing, there will also be the last Habitat for Humanity work day of the year the following Saturday, Apr. 20, from 8:30-4:00. See Mr. Mike Budniak if interested in either of these work days.
