Ice Rocks second in state Trinity’s ice hockey team put up a courageous fight against Oldham County in the state final game Mar. 3 at Iceland but fell 2-1. Head coach Mark Gustafson had the team ready, but the Rocks fell behind 1-0 in the first period. The teams traded blows through the rest of the period until the Rocks tied the game at 1-1 with only five minutes left to play. It looked like the game would head to overtime but with 1:40 to play, Oldham County scored to make it 2-1 and made it stand up despite a Trinity power play to end the game. To reach the finals the Rocks defeated Eastern on Friday night 10-0, and then won on Saturday in overtime, 5-4. Basketball team falls in Seventh Region final The basketball Rocks suffered a heartbreaking loss 57-46 to Ballard in the finals of the Seventh Region championship. The coaches thanked all the players for their hard work this year and sent out a special thanks to the six graduating seniors: Darryl Hicks, Miles Rice, Demarcus Page, James Quick, Sam Strothman and Sam Allen-Kawa for all their hard work the last four years. They leave the program as the winningest class of all time and have earned the respect of their peers and coaches. Powerlifters win at Holy Cross Power Sports Meet The Trinity powerlifters won both the varsity and JV divisions at the Holy Cross Power Sports powerlifting meet. Several lifters had outstanding meets, setting numerous meet records. Varsity lifters John Zehnder, Michael Hanlein, Tad Voss, Noah Scannell, Mitchell Theiss and Lance Kaufman placed first in their respective weight classes. Hanlein took top lifter honors by power cleaning, bench pressing and curling more than four times his own body weight. The lifters’ next competition is the state meet at North Bullitt on Mar. 9. Volleyball practice begins The roster is set and the volleyball team’s practice times are as follows: freshmen, Tuesdays and Thursdays 5-6:30; varsity and JV, Tuesdays and Thursdays 6:30-8:30. Intramural volleyball to start Monday Intramural volleyball games will begin Mar. 11. Captains may pick up schedules from Mrs. Mary Mason after school in the Trinity Hall computer lab or at lunch.
