Chess team second in state The chess Rocks earned second place in the state championship, played Saturday at Trinity. John Marcsik, with a perfect four-match run, led the team of players Jonah Donze, Nick Termini, Tyler Gob and Noah Roach. Mrs. Carol Comstock coached the team and coordinated the event. Mother-Son Mass held Sunday Trinity’s annual Mother-Son Mass was held Mar. 3 at 10 a.m. in Steinhauser Gymnasium. Trinity’s chapter of the Beta Club once again sponsored the event. Moms and sons of all ages attended the Mass, celebrated by Fr. Dave Zettel. Becket wins House Trivia Contest Becket House posted a victory in the House Trivia Contest, held Feb. 28 in the convocation hall. Becket, led by Mr. John Youngblood, answered 66 questions correctly. Merton House, led by Mr. Tom Dubay, came in second with 61 correct answers. Dante finished third and Gonzaga fourth. All other Houses fielded teams and earned participation points. Rocks qualify for National Catholic Forensic League Grand National Tournament Speech and debate team members, coached by Ms. Amy Zuccaro, competed at the Kentucky Catholic Forensic League national qualifying tournament. Jeremy Gaines placed first in Congressional Debate. Jorge Rojas-Ortega claimed second in Lincoln-Douglas debate, and Pedro Sanchez-Villa took fourth place. They will be joined by the Public Forum debate team of John Moremen and Jared Wilson when they travel to Philadelphia in May for the National Catholic Forensic League Grand National Tournament. St. Joseph of Arimathea ministry gains national attention Many Trinity students and teachers are involved in a ministry known as the St. Joseph of Arimathea Society (http://www.trinityrocks.com/on-campus/clubs-activities/special-interest/joseph-of-arimathea-society). The organization comprises several high schools that send student volunteers to serve as pallbearers, offer readings and serve as witnesses at funerals for the poor and homeless in Louisville. The organization is gaining regional and national attention, as seen in this article (http://www.kentucky.com/2013/02/26/2532165/counties-cope-as-indigent-burials.html) that began locally, but is now appearing in media outlets across the U.S. Students from Trinity High School are pictured in the article handling the duties for one particular family.
