Open House Draws Hundreds of Seventh- and Eighth-Graders
November 11, 2014
More than 300 volunteers came together to put on one of the biggest events of the year at Trinity on Sunday, Nov. 9. Students, alumni, faculty and staff, Board members and parents were on hand to show what Trinity is all about at the annual Open House. The event attracted about 450 prospective students.
During Open House prospective students and their families were given a tour of the campus that included a focus on the academics and activities offered at Trinity. The tour ended in Alumni Hall, where representatives from academic departments, clubs and athletic teams were available to answer questions and explore how each prospective student could excel at Trinity.
Trinity Vice President for School Advancement Joe Porter said the main purpose of the school’s open house “is for families to get a real sense of who we are.”
Open House underwent a few changes this year, the most significant being less emphasis on tours and more emphasis on connections with the people that make Trinity what it is. “It’s not that we don’t want to show off our campus, because we do. We just don’t want to spend an hour and a half on tour,” Porter said. “Alumni Hall is a key area where a lot of conversations take place and a lot of connections get made.”
Porter spoke of the event’s success and why Trinity impresses visitors. “I think they are amazed by the attitude of the place,” he said. “You can say that you are a welcoming place all you want, but until you experience the real spirit of welcome that we display and are, you don’t really know what it’s about. When you experience that, it kind of blows you away. I think that’s what people walk away with, a sense of my gosh these people really care.”
