Tennis Rocks Capture Seventh Region Crown, Fall in State Quarterfinals

The Trinity tennis team captured the Seventh Region crown on May 6 at Top Gun Academy.  Both Trinity doubles teams advanced to the championship match, ultimately won by Mustafa Gardezi and Austin Strause (6-1, 6-2) over the Rocks’ Tommy McConville and Sam Rueff.

Based on the KHSAA tennis postseason guidelines, the team will advance to the sectional tournament May 9 in Elizabethtown.  Additionally, both Trinity doubles teams have qualified for the state tournament the following week.

The team is led by head coach Chris Mather, assistant coach Chris Cruse and assistant coach/moderator Shayne Hull.

Sectional Update:

The Rocks defeated Marion County in the sectional round held May 9 in Elizabethtown before falling to St. Xavier in the state quarterfinals. Trinity’s two doubles teams (Mustafa Gardezi-Austin Strause and Tommy McConville-Sam Rueff) advanced to the state tournament May 16 in Lexington.
