Senior Earns Eagle Rank
August 13, 2015
Senior Jack Kitchin attained the rank of Eagle in the Boy Scouts of America. Kitchin’sTroop 315 meets at Harvey Browne Church in St. Matthews.
Kitchin’s Eagle project spanned four weekends, as he converted the Wayside Christian Mission dining hall into a café. The project comprised peeling wall paper dating to 1962, patching walls, priming and painting. Kitchin also installed all new flooring with Luxury Vinyl Tile (donated by Sam Kinnaird’s Flooring) and new custom doors (donated by K-I Lumber Co.).
He added new dining tables (donated by Dine-In Restaurant Supplies) and cushioned chairs for the clients (donated by Junior Achievement). He finished by hanging wall paintings and photos and a dry erase board, along with a clock to make it seem more like home for the clients at the mission.
The clients, along with Chaplain Mike Blunk and Rev. Tim Moseley, were moved by Kitchin’s organization, as well as the hours he put in and his attention to detail.
