Rocks Making the Move to Nike
February 29, 2016
The sports world’s biggest and most well-known company will soon produce almost all of Trinity’s athletic team uniforms.
Within the next three to six years, most teams will wear Nike uniforms on game day.
Trinity will join the likes of schools like Florida, Michigan, Alabama and Ohio State, which are becoming or already are Nike schools.
Saving money, as well as forming a relationship with one company instead of several brought about the move for Trinity. The deal will save the school money because there is only one supplier.
Having one main company as a partner will provide purchase discounts and make dealing with vendors less complicated.
Currently, the Trinity football and soccer teams use adidas while the cross country team uses Under Armour.
The change will not happen immediately for every team. Most teams have uniforms that are new or on a cycle that does not need replacement yet. For example, the cross country team received new Under Armour uniforms this year, and they will be worn for the next two years.
When they need to be replaced, Nike will take over and provide uniforms and warm-ups for the team. The football team’s cycle of uniforms ended after the 2015 season, which means the football Rocks will be suited up in Nike to start the 2016 season.
Not every team will be provided with Nike apparel because they do not make uniforms for some sports, among them ice hockey and cheerleading. Those teams will remain with their own choice of uniform provider.
Nike approached Trinity to make the new deal just as they have gone to other big high schools around the country.
Trinity Athletic Director Rob Saxton coordinated the deal with BSN sports, the distributor of Nike apparel. Saxton described the Nike brand as “excellent.”
For some players the uniform has an impact on the field.
Trinity wide receiver Connor Carrico, a senior, said, “Good-looking uniforms bring more confidence.”
For some, something as small as a logo on a uniform can impact performance. Varsity track and cross country runner Jack Meredith put it simply: “Look good, feel good, run good.”
The football team, specifically, has had “black out” uniforms over the years provided by adidas.
Carrico said, “The (uniforms) bring a new atmosphere to the game when we look a little different.”
These special-occasion, alternative uniforms will look different and have their own unique take. The team may not get alternative uniforms next season; however, in the future there will be flashy and exciting uniforms to look for on the football field.
