Archbishop Blesses Renovated W. Peter Flaig Library Media Center
September 9, 2016
It may have been a gloomy Friday morning outside, but inside the W. Peter Flaig Library Media Center, it was all smiling faces. Archbishop Joseph Kurtz blessed the newly renovated center Friday, Sept. 9. The center is named after former Trinity president Mr. Peter Flaig, who passed away in 2008.
Among those who attended were Mrs. Marty Flaig, Trinity President Dr. Rob Mullen, Principal Mr. Dan Zoeller, Chaplain Fr. Dave Zettel, Alumni Board members, current faculty and staff, and others from the Trinity community.
Everyone who walked into the center was impressed with the renovations that took place in June and July. Retired teacher Mr. Jim Connell, Class of 1963 and former head of the art program at Trinity, helped design the renovation.
The center has a lot of history behind it. When Trinity first began in 1953, the room that the library is in now was originally a church that caught fire. After the fire, the area became classrooms for students before becoming the library.
Kurtz took a tour of the center, led by Trinity librarians Mr. Tim Jones and Mrs. Betsy deGolian. He was impressed with the new state-of-the-art additions that students were working with and was especially intrigued with the creations that students were making on the new 3D printers. Kurtz had fun using the technology, sharing his photos and his Twitter account on his phone with everyone.
Mullen was very emotional when speaking about Peter Flaig. He said, “Peter would love this place. He was a ‘nerd’ of technology.” Mullen thanked the anonymous donor who made the renovation of the library possible.
Before Kurtz blessed the library, he said of Peter Flaig, “I did not know Peter personally, but in a way, I feel like I knew him.”
When Zettel, Class of 1958, was asked about the renovation, he said, “This renovation is for the good of the students. (It) will interest the kids more.”
To conclude the blessing, everyone joined in the singing of the Trinity Alma Mater, led by the Trinity Senior Class officers.
