Open-Air Opening Mass Features Rocks United Theme
August 29, 2021
Following the guidelines set by the Class of 2021 graduation, the Opening Mass for 2021-22 took place in Marshall Stadium on the morning of Aug. 27. With the Class of 2022 seated in chairs placed on the field, the underclassmen, faculty, staff and guests filled the stands. Chaplain Fr. Dave Zettel ’58 celebrated the Mass, which included addresses by Senior Class President Graven Monsour and Principal Dr. Dan Zoeller H’07.
The year’s theme and poster were revealed by Monsour during his address. Senior Class officers displayed the poster, which features a green background and the words “Never ResT — Together We’re Best.”
Zettel began Mass by acknowledging those present from the Class of 1972, celebrating their 50th reunion this year. A blessing of the rings for the Class of 2022 followed. The Junior Class last year was unable to have a Ring Mass due to COVID restrictions.
Zettel referenced the day’s gospel by pointing out the “light” provided by the presence of a full student body on campus this year. Monsour spoke to students of the importance in gaining the most possible from their Trinity experience. Zoeller cited three works he read this summer and highlighted how crucial it is for people to stay connected through difficult times.
Mass ended with seniors linking arms and the singing of the Alma Mater.

Hi, great photos however there are none of the Liturgy Band. My son, who is a senior, plays the guitar. I would’ve enjoyed seeing some pictures of them playing. Thanks
