A Quick Six with Spring Sports Senior Charlie Pankonin
May 18, 2022
As the track and field Rocks prepare to close out the season in a strong way, they will compete at Male in the Louisville Meet of Champions (5/18), the JV championship at St. Xavier (5/21), the regional at Eastern (5/24) and the state championship at UK (6/4). Senior Charlie Pankonin, who competes in field events, answered a few questions.
Q: Why did you begin competing in track and field?
A: I needed something to do after wrestling season.
Q: What is the outlook for the team this season?
A: Our outlook this year is to compete to the best of our ability and place at state.
Q: What events do you compete in, and what skills are needed most?
A: I do shot put and discus. You need strength, explosiveness, and technique if you want to throw far.
Q: What has been your favorite memory on the track team?
A: My favorite memory is preseason practices. Coach Barbagallo had all the throwers condition with the sprinters. They were tough but fun practices.
Q: In what way do you plan to continue track and field after your high school career?
A: Maybe I’ll throw some shot put and discus here and there. There are summer leagues, so I’ll probably join one of those.
Q: What is your fondest memory of Trinity High School?
A: It has to be the times where I stayed in the parking lot (the one near Sheehan Hall) for two hours just talking to some friends.

Charlie is a “Trinity guy” through and through. He has a good heart and tries his best. He’s steadily improved as a member of the track program over the last few years. I enjoy watching him compete and talking with him on campus when I see him around. I’m proud of the progress he’s made as a student-athlete at Trinity. Good luck in regionals and state, Charlie! ☘️
