April 19, 2023
On a track and field team building toward a strong showing in the regional and state meets, the Rocks’ senior leadership makes a difference. A distance runner, senior Peyton Lomax answered some questions about his running career.
Q: Why did you begin competing in track and field?
A: I started my junior year because I wanted to get in shape for the military.
Q: How is the season going so far?
A: The season for the distance Rocks is going well. Our freshman class is really strong, and sophomore Eli Oetken is in the 4:20s for the mile and will do really good in state. My season is going pretty well too. I am only nine seconds away from breaking five minutes in the mile.
Q: What is your part on the team and what skills does that require?
A: I’m the only senior on the distance team, so I have a leadership role. I lead by example by showing up every day and just doing the right thing to set a good example.
Q: What has been your favorite memory on the team?
A: My favorite memory is running a trail through Seneca with a my teammates. The weather was awful. It was pouring down rain, but we were saying so many jokes and laughing so hard, we all had to stop running because none of us could breathe.
Q: In what way do you plan to continue your sport after your high school career?
A: I plan to run a lot on my own. I do enjoy running, and I will be running in ROTC.
Q: What is your fondest memory of Trinity High School?
A: My favorite memory of Trinity was senior retreat. I can’t really say a whole lot about it, but it was a very valuable experience and something I think every student should experience.
