A Quick Six with Spring Sports Senior Caleb Grimm
April 19, 2023
The defending state champion volleyball Rocks, currently on a six-match winning streak, rely on seniors for leadership. Caleb Grimm is one of those leaders. He answered a few questions about his volleyball career.
Q: Why did you begin competing in volleyball?
A: I first started playing volleyball in sixth grade for my grade school team. I really enjoyed it, and I wanted to pick a sport to play in high school. I decided to try out for the local club volleyball team, and the rest is history.
Q: How is the season going so far?
A: The season is going pretty well. We had a little bit of a rocky start with some key injuries, but we’re halfway through the year, and everybody is back. I’m looking forward to playing with our whole team.
Q: What is your part on the team and what skills does that require?
A: My position is called the setter. Some consider it the “quarterback” of volleyball. I am basically in charge of all second contacts, and I try to set my teammates in positions where they can get a kill and earn us a point.
Q: What has been your favorite memory on the team?
A: My favorite memory on the team is after we won state last year. We all waited outside the gym for Coach Bowles to walk out, and when he did, we all sprayed our water bottles on him and drenched him in his suit.
Q: In what way do you plan to continue your sport after your high school career?
A: I received some DIII offers but chose to not play volleyball in college. Instead, I will be attending the University of Kentucky, and I plan on playing club volleyball there and helping out with the women’s team.
Q: What is your fondest memory of Trinity High School?
A: My fondest memory of Trinity High School is from freshman year when my House won Rockin’. It was a great way to start my four years at Trinity, and I got to meet a lot of my current friends.
