A Quick Six with Spring Sports Senior Nate Zimmerman
April 28, 2023
Led by second-year head coach Chet Allen and moderator Mr. Shayne Hull, the tennis Rocks have racked up an 8-4-1 record, with a recent win over Male. The Rocks compete in the KYHSTCA Sectional today and Apr. 29 at St. Xavier. Senior Nate Zimmerman answered some questions about his tennis career.
A: I’ve been playing tennis since I was about eight years old. I played in middle school for three years and have been playing for Trinity since freshman year.
Q: How is the season going so far?
A: The season has gone pretty well so far. We have a lot of determination and spirit, which has paid off in pivotal wins over some of the top teams in the state. A lot of our talent comes from the underclassman, which is a lot of pressure. But they have stepped up and taken on the challenge.
Q: What is your part on the team and what skills does that require?
A: I typically play no. 2 doubles, but our team is so spread out that we move players around a lot. Whether I’m playing or not, I try to support my teammates, which is another thing our team has excelled at this season.
Q: What has been your favorite memory on the team?
A: My favorite memory on the tennis team was probably freshman year tryouts. It was the most strenuous physical test I had endured up to that point, which put into perspective how different and more intense high school sports are. Despite being difficult, I enjoyed the challenge because it prepared me for the season to come.
Q: In what ways do you plan to continue your sport after your high school career?
A: I won’t be playing in college, but I do hope to continue to play with my family and friends and to eventually join a men’s league when I get out of college. Tennis is a sport that can be played through old age, and I hope to do just that.
Q: What is your fondest memory of Trinity High School?
A: My fondest memory was standing in the very front row at the Trinity versus St. X football game. Although we lost, I felt the brotherhood and camaraderie among my classmates — a feeling that will last a lifetime. From being a nervous freshman sitting at the very top of the student section to leading it as a senior in the front was a cool transformation.
