A Quick Six with Spring Sports Senior Chandler Newton
April 24, 2023
The 7-4 lacrosse Rocks, who finished as state runner-up to St. Xavier last year, defeated the Tigers 16-9 on Mar. 29. The team takes on Lexington Tates Creek on Wednesday, and the varsity and 7-0 JV team welcome Center Grove (Ind.) to Marshall Stadium on Apr. 29 (Senior Day). Senior Chandler Newton took time to answer a few questions about his lacrosse career.
Q: Why did you begin competing in lacrosse?
A: I began playing lacrosse in the third grade. One of my childhood friend’s dad needed players for the lacrosse team and convinced me to play. Now, I’ve been playing for 10 years and still going.
Q: How is the season going so far?
A: Season is going well currently; we beat St. X for the first time since 2017 this year. We’ve played a lot of good competition and performed well, but there’s always room to improve.
Q: What is your part on the team, and what skills does that require?
A: I play long-stick midfield or defense for my team. The biggest skill I have to have for those positions is really just conditioning. It requires a lot to just run up and down the field the whole game.
Q: What has been your favorite memory on the team?
A: My favorite memory on the team was our trip down to the University of North Carolina. That was a great time getting to spend three days over the summer playing games and having fun with my friends.
Q: In what ways do you plan to continue your sport after your high school career?
A: I plan to go to the University of Kentucky and play club lacrosse there. I hope to continue having a part of lacrosse in my life until I’m older.
Q: What is your fondest memory of Trinity High School?
A: Lacrosse here at Trinity. It’s consumed all four years of my Trinity career, and I would 100 percent go back and do it again. I’ve had a great time playing here and am truly going to miss playing for the Rocks.
