Mark Harbrecht is a fresh face at Trinity High School this school year, but not a totally new face on Trinity’s campus. Harbrecht graduated from Trinity in 2016 and went on to the University of Louisville. This school year, he came back to Trinity and took Mr. Seng’s place in the English department, teaching juniors and freshmen. Harbrecht teaches everything from “Fahrenheit 451” with the juniors to “Of Mice and Men” with the first-year students.
Harbrecht mentioned that the start to the year wasn’t perfect. “The transition is hard for me. I had COVID my first week, then the internet went down, and it’s been hard. But the teachers around me and the guys have been super helpful.” Everyone has rough weeks and hard times, but Harbrecht has gotten through it and is excited to teach and grow in this Trinity community.
Outside of school, Harbrecht is a gamer, and he really likes Dungeons and Dragons, a board game of the players’ own thoughts or actions. He also says he likes retreats and is excited to see some of the things he misses from his high school days.
Harbrecht brought up some of his inspirations at Trinity: Joe Henning inspired him to teach, Gary Owens taught him English and showed him that was his passion, and Chris Luken took him on retreat and showed how powerful that experience can be. Harbrecht also says retreat is where Trinity started feeling like home.
Harbrecht has a past in teaching, as he was a substitute for a year and worked at Sacred Heart Academy for a year. He then left Sacred Heart to come here. In his college years, he was at Louisville where he says he had a great time and lost some connection to Trinity. However, when he came back, he found his love again.
It’s clear that Harbrecht is a great English teacher and a great person that the Trinity family welcomes back with enthusiasm.
