Jake Williams: A New Voice in English Education at Trinity

Trinity High School welcomes a fresh addition to its teaching faculty this year in Mr. Jake Williams. Excited with the aspect of a new curriculum, and almost a decade of teaching experience, Williams is a great fit for Trinity, and he’s ready to prepare his students for college.

Last year around the holidays, Williams had the opportunity come to teach at Trinity. He already knew some of the staff and had previous coaching experience with football here at Trinity, so he readily took the job. Williams has devoted his entire career to teaching English. He spent five years in Washington, D.C. after college, followed by four years teaching in Jefferson County Public Schools. According to Mr. Williams, English provides a good base for students going into college.

Williams is teaching sophomore language arts and junior-level English classes. His primary goal for his students is to become better writers and more confident readers by the end of the year. “I want my students to feel like better readers and writers than when they first walked into my classroom at the beginning of the year,” he emphasized.

For his junior-level students, Mr. Williams aims to prepare them for life beyond high school. This includes not only college applications but also job applications, ensuring they feel well-equipped for the challenges they will face in the future.

In addition to his teaching role, Mr. Williams has a strong background in coaching football. He coached at W.E.B. DuBois Academy, building their team from the ground up. Before Williams came to DuBois, they didn’t even have a football team. On the other hand, Trinity has just about everything you need for a football team, which they love.

Whether on the field or in the classroom, Williams is sure to prepare the students well.
