Trinity High School junior Landon Brown and Science/Engineering teacher Stephen Hammer have started a new Simulator Racing Club (or Sim racing for short) this school year. The club focuses on teaching new people the basics of sim racing and improving on skills some kids already have.
Brown stated, “The reason why I decided to start this club was just, I have seen so much talent come from very unique people all around the world, and my racing experience, and then people online and stuff. And so, that inspired me to start this club.” Brown has been racing since he was little. “For a long time my dad has been a race fan, probably for about 20-30 years. So, obviously he had to get me into racing.” Brown has a strong passion for sim racing, but he also races midget karts in the Kenyon Midget Series that is based in Indianapolis.
The sim racing club currently meets on Wednesdays and will usually go to Overdrive, a sim racing place, which is in downtown Louisville. To attend these meetings, each student has to turn in a waiver form to Hammer for permission to leave campus. The pricing for students is $20 every time that you attend. Overdrives prices are usually $80 per person, but the owner has made a deal specifically for Trinity and moved it down to $20. The club will also occasionally go to a place in Jeffersontown named Full Throttle which is an indoor go-kart venue.
The club has started off very well and is increasingly becoming more popular. Advertisements and information about the club can be seen on TTV during advising period on Tuesdays and in students’ last period classes on Fridays. For any questions about the club, you can email the club moderator Stephen Hammer ([email protected]) or the club president Landon Brown ([email protected]).
