Since the recent tennis center was built close to campus, the Trinity Tennis Rocks have been humming through matches and sets. Sophomore tennis member, Chase Jorgensen, had much to say about how the center has helped the team succeed so far against opponents.
The April marquee house cup event that was held at Trinity’s new tennis center was a huge feat, and it provided a great deal of support for the team. Jorgensen said it was a huge part of the season so far. “I think our biggest win was against CAL [Christian Academy of Louisville] for the first tennis marquee and also the first match we played on the courts against Manual.” Since Jorgensen is a younger member of the team, he must fit in well with the upper-class students to win doubles matches against solid teams around the 502. He said of the team camaraderie, “I feel like everybody is a community on the team and everybody plays their role as leaders. Everybody can step up to the plate at any point in time.”
Before the Trinity tennis center was built, the Rocks would practice at the courts near Waggener High School off Hubbards Lane in St. Matthews. This was not so easy and convenient and there were many things not offered to them there. Jorgensen said,” We did not have water fountains over there and all the ball machines. It is so nice at the new home.”
As for the rest of the season, there rival match against St. Xavier still exists. “Our last tournament is regionals, so we will need to prepare for that to make state and keep the season rolling.” To check the schedule for Trinity tennis, please visit the Athletics tab at trinityrocks.com.
