The Trinity Shamrocks and rivals St. Xavier Tigers play on Friday Sept. 27, 8:00 PM at L&N Federal Credit Union Stadium in the heart of Louisville, Kentucky. Who will come out on top? Trinity is coming off their third win of the season and their first home win vs. Male High School for a 24-21 comeback victory. The final drive of that game was led by star quarterback Zane Johnson. Male went home stunned. St. X lost to Elder High School (OH) in Cincinnati 17-15 last Friday with a game winning field goal 20 yards out to give Elder the win.
Moving into this Friday’s game, Trinity comes in as the #2 ranked team in the state, and 4-1 record (3-0 Road) (1-1 Home). St. X comes in as #8 in the state at 2-2 (1-0 Home) (1-2 Road). Both teams have immense history with one another. The rivalry is considered one of the best and most historic in all American high school football.
Trinity won the previous meeting in the rivalry series 45-10, off the performance of then-freshman QB Zane Johnson and the Trinity defense. Trinity and St. X have split the series the last 6 years at 3-3, truly showing how competitive and heated this rivalry is. This rivalry originated in 1956, with Trinity having a winning record in the series 48-40-2, and is 4-2 against them in Kentucky State championship games.
