On Saturday, September 29, Trinity faced off against St. Xavier in a very unusual installment to the famous rivalry. The Rocks played hard, making several impressive passes, but had difficulty getting to the endzone proper. The game finished in a 16-10 defeat, but the season is far from over for the Shamrocks.

This year’s game was truly unusual as it was held at St. Xavier instead of L&N stadium. This was the result of the remnants of Hurricane Helene, which barreled into the southeast United States last week. According to the New York Times, the storm is responsible for the deaths of at least 121 people across Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, the Carolinas and Virginia. Due to high winds and safety concerns caused by the storm, schools were closed across Louisville and the game was moved from Friday to Saturday.

These unforeseen circumstances did not stop the Shamrocks from turning out to the game. ECHO reporters couldn’t get into the Trinity student section as it was filled to the brim with screaming fans. Those loyal fans, who stood in the rain to watch the game, were not disappointed by Trinity’s tenacity. It was a tough game, but the Rocks did show up and play hard.

St. X did start the game with an impressive 80-yard pass for a touchdown, but an impressive run by Zach Floyd reminded the Tigers that Trinity was still in the game. A kick by Carson Hilbert soon put Trinity on the scoreboard. Finishing the second quarter strong, Chris Wilson ran weaving past St. X’s entire team, but the clock ran out before a touchdown could be scored. In the third quarter, a touchdown by Jeremiah Lynn kept the Tigers sweating until the final buzz.

Despite the hurricane and the change of venue, Trinity played hard. Supported by a student section that will come in rain or shine, the Rocks are far from finished.

Next Friday, Oct. 4,, the Rocks will take on Cincinnati St. X at Marshall Stadium. Trinity’s student section will still be filled with loyal fans, ready to watch another good game from the Shamrocks.
