The Outdoors Club is the perfect club for Trinity students who are interested in activities such as hiking, kayaking, rock climbing, or anything else to do with nature. Seth Blakeslee, founder and moderator of the Outdoors Club, organizes all the events for the club. He’s always coming up with new and interesting activities for the club to do. He’s most recently added bird watching to the list, which happens every other Friday morning.
The idea for the club started when Trinity returned to in person school from Covid, and Blakeslee talked to his students about what they did while they were out of school. “I was talking to students about what kinds of things they had picked up or tried during Covid and several said that they had really gotten into hiking, and they wanted to do it together as a club, so I was like, heck yeah, I love being outside.” The club took off from there and now they do many different outdoor activities all around Louisville.
But why should Trinity students join this particular club? “There are so many things that hold us inside. We don’t get a whole lot of opportunities stop and look at things and eat up every single distraction and the club is just a way to encourage curiosity, and breathe in some better air,” said Blakeslee. It’s so easy to get hyper focused on school, sports, work and other responsibilities that we forget to relax and enjoy nature. The Outdoors Club gives students a great opportunity to enjoy these things. The club meets monthly to discuss events they would like to do, and they do a big outdoors event once a quarter.
