This school year, Trinity High School welcomed another new teacher in Mrs. Lauren Smith. A Louisville native, Smith returned to the city where she grew up. After previously teaching in Louisville, Smith found her way to Trinity through her experience in the Catholic school system and through friends who teach at Trinity. Of her time here thus far, Smith said that “it is a wonderful place to teach” and “I’m already loving it—I’m having a lot of fun.”
Smith shared that she got into teaching because she loves helping kids. “When I was a volunteer tutor in high school, there was a little boy who no one wanted to work with. He opened my heart to teaching.” Smith went on to say that she previously taught at Sacred Heart Academy for five years and Doss High School for the last four years.
This year, Smith teaches Algebra 2 and works with Seton House. To continue to dig her roots into the Trinity community, her son will be attending Trinity High School next year. Currently, she is in charge of the Math Honors Society and mentioned she’d like to start a club focused on her son’s interest in bugs.
Smith’s original connection to Trinity came through family and friends who attended or taught there. She grew up in the Catholic school system, attending Sacred Heart Model School, Our Lady of Lourdes, and St. Agnes before moving to Florida in 8th grade. She later attended the University of Florida, where she loved her time. “It was a great time. I was there when Tim Tebow was on campus, and Florida was the best in college athletics then.”
Asked about the impact she hopes to have on her students, Smith said, “I want my students to become independent and self-motivated in their learning.”
Welcome to Trinity, Mrs. Smith!
