Trinity High School students looking for a new way to channel their passion for justice and competition now have a unique opportunity: the Law Club. Spearheaded by senior Carson Song and moderated by Mr. Randy Perkins, the club is designed to offer students a hands-on approach to understanding the legal system, build their skills in mock trial competitions, and ignite interest in law as a potential career path.
“I believe this club can bring a greater interest in law to our community,” Song said, reflecting on the club’s potential. While the Law Club’s membership may be small at the moment, he is hopeful that more students will be inspired to join. “We can find and encourage other Trinity brothers to join and really find their calling in the law community,” Song added.
At the heart of the club’s mission is the mock trial competition, where members will practice real-world legal scenarios and hone their debating, critical thinking, and public speaking skills. “My plans for this club are to join the mock trial team and create a competitive environment where students can showcase their passion for law and, hopefully, bring prestige to Trinity,” Song explained. Mock trials not only give students hands-on experience with legal proceedings, but also serve as an opportunity to develop confidence in a competitive, team-oriented setting.
The club’s meetings will primarily focus on preparing for mock trial competitions, but Song has broader goals in mind as well. “I want members to learn more about how law operates and the fundamental principles behind it,” he stated. The club will also provide a space for students to explore the basics of the legal system, from court procedures to constitutional law, sparking deeper discussions about law’s role in society.
Song believes that the Law Club can offer more than just academic enrichment—it can foster a community of like-minded individuals with shared interests. One of the club’s goals is to prepare students by providing a space to share ideas and connect with others who are also interested in law. For students considering law as a career, the club offers an invaluable opportunity to interact with peers who share their ambitions and passions.
Looking toward the future, Song is hopeful that the club will continue to grow after he graduates. “I hope this club can compete in state mock trials, and maybe even nationals one day,” he said. “But more than that, I want this club to become a place where students can find opportunities for each other, similar to how the pre-med club helps students connect with careers in medicine.” He envisions a student-led community where members help one another explore the legal field, gain real-world experience, and ultimately prepare for a future in law.
The Law Club’s creation reflects Song’s personal passion for law and his desire to inspire others at Trinity. With his guidance, the Law Club looks set to become a launchpad for future legal minds at Trinity High School.
Whether you’re looking to compete in mock trials or simply explore the world of law, the Law Club promises an exciting and dynamic environment to engage with the legal world. Students interested in joining the Law Club or learning more about upcoming events are encouraged to attend the next meeting, as announced on Joy Durbin’s daily announcements or on TTV.
