Coach Norman’s Vision: Faith, Fellowship, and Teamwork

Most students know Coach Geoff Norman from his boisterous personality and friendliness, but many may be unaware that he coached Trinity hockey from 2014 to 2020. Also, Norman has coached lacrosse here since 2016, heading into his ninth year in that role. Norman became a full-time teacher five years ago, but another fact that many may not know he is also one of the moderators of FCA: the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Norman decided to co-moderate FCA with Coach Chad Carpenter to provide young men—and students from all grade levels—with an opportunity to spend time together and dive into the Bible. He was inspired in part by his wife who introduced him to FCA through the basketball and football teams at the University of Oregan, where she used to coach.

A few years ago, the number of students involved in FCA was in the 20s, but Norman proudly shares that membership has grown to the 40s. To Norman, the most significant aspect of participating in FCA is seeing freshmen through seniors contribute to fostering a sense of community centered around scripture. Students share their testimonies, learn about the Bible, and connect with each other. Norman highlighted that the sense of community in FCA helps student-athletes come together to understand the challenges of balancing sports and academics. He described FCA as a place to renew faith and build connections. Norman said, “The main purpose is fellowship with fellow Christians and athletes… that is what FCA is—a Fellowship of Christian Athletes coming together. As athletes and students, we will experience wins and losses and have bad days in the classroom, but it is important to support each other as Christians and athletes.”

Norman hopes to leave a lasting impact on his players and students by teaching accountability, teamwork, and responsibility. He also wants them to believe not only in each other but in the Lord and Savior to guide and direct them in everything they do, both on and off the field.

Coach Norman continues to inspire faith and teamwork through his leadership in FCA.
