Just before the school went on break for the Thanksgiving holiday, around 50 students from Trinity spent three days at the Crowne Plaza Hotel participating in the annual Kentucky Youth Assemble (KYA). Led by moderators Walter Mata and Jorge Serrano and President Max Corbett (’26), Trinity’s delegation took home numerous awards for both individual and delegation performances.
At its core, KYA is a model government of Kentucky run by high school students that focuses on debating legislation, arguing important social issues, and preparing students for leadership roles in government and beyond. With impacts around the state, KYA is one of the few programs at Trinity that provides students with the opportunity to meet people from across the commonwealth and share ideas that are relevant to everyone’s day to day life. Trinity Junior Max Corbett credits a lot of his high school success to KYA, saying, “I love KYA because it gives me the opportunity to speak my mind on issues around my state and meet so many people from a variety of different places in Kentucky.”
KYA also consists of a variety of program areas. The Trinity delegation had participants in most of the programs, including the Supreme Court, where students debate real Kentucky Supreme Court cases, and the Media Corps. Overall, the months of preparation paid off for every member of the delegation with the group earning the award of being a premier delegation.
Special congratulations to club president Max Corbett who was elected governor of the KYA 3 conference.
