On Saturday, the Debate Rocks headed to Transylvania University for the Kentucky High School Speech League State Debate Tournament. Competing against much bigger squads, the Rocks held their own.
Earning individual speaker awards were the following:
In Novice Public Forum: freshmen Gio Roccisano -6th place; Owen Tafel -5th place
In Varsity Lincoln-Douglas: junior Liam Wahl – 3rd place
In Varsity Public Forum senior captains Hayden Deitz and Ian Beierle swept the competition with Hayden in 2nd and Ian in 1st.
Junior Max Corbett advanced to the finals in Congressional Debate, placing him solidly in the top 15 of state.
Deitz and Beierle advanced to the finals in Varsity Public Forum and finished as state runners-up on a split decision ballot.
The team earned fifth place in overall team sweepstakes.
