Seize the Stage: Newsies Arrives at Trinity on March 5

Tonight, Trinity’s Department of Theatre Arts will bring the energy and excitement of “Newsies” to the stage, showcasing the school’s theatrical excellence. Director Kate Reedy is excited for the Trinity community to experience the fan-favorite show. “Newsies is a more contemporary and modern show geared more towards high school students.” With this in mind, “Newsies” will be an exciting experience for Trinity students, parents, and the entire audience.

This production of “Newsies” is inspired by Disney’s 1992 film, ensuring an engaging experience for audiences of all ages. “Newsies” is a show about the newsboy strike of 1899 in New York City. Despite facing significant challenges at the start of the semester from snow to rampant sickness, the cast and crew have dedicated extra hours to ensure a successful and vibrant performance. Cast members have had to adjust to a new musical director, but as Mrs. Reedy put it, “The students have actually taken a lot of his style of how he works, and I was concerned about how that camaraderie would work, but it has been beautiful.”

Audiences can expect to see some freshman and sophomores really shine and be big parts of the show. This is significant because of the leadership of the upperclassman and the role they have taken to be a guide to the underclassman. With high-energy dance numbers, a heartfelt story, and a cast that has poured their hearts into every rehearsal, this is a production you won’t want to miss. “Newsies” runs until March 16. Tickets can be purchased at Trinitydota.com.
