Coach Devian Logan is a familiar face at Trinity High School, not only as a counselor, but also as a proud alumnus. With years of experience guiding students, he has become a trusted mentor and source of support. But how long has he been doing this job? He shared, “I have had eight years here and five years in JCPS as a counselor.” His passion for counseling started early. “When I was a student here at Trinity, way back when, all my friends would come to me with their problems and talk to me about them,” he said. “I figured, if I have to listen to everybody’s problems, I might as well get paid for it.”

Coach Logan’s daily routine as a counselor is never the same. He explained, “You never really know what your schedule is going to be. I talk to students about grades, things going on in their lives, how to help them navigate through those challenges, and just make sure they are okay mentally and emotionally.”

When asked about his education and qualifications, Coach Logan said, “I have degrees in psychology and related fields. I worked in child psychiatric research, then moved into the public school system, where I did behavior intervention before transitioning into counseling.”

One of Coach Logan’s biggest roles is sharing advice for how to be healthy as a teenager. In our interview, he shared that it’s important to “talk about issues with somebody you trust. It’s okay to need help. We have a big support system here, but if things aren’t going the way you want them to, seek help.”

Coach Devian Logan represents what it means to be a dedicated counselor.
