Mr. Torra Takes the Lead: Meet Trinity’s New President

You’ve probably seen him around campus—but now you’ll be seeing a lot more of him. Mr. James Torra, recently elected as the next president of Trinity High School, officially begins his new role on July 1, 2025—and he’s bringing with him a deep love for the school and a passion for its future.

“I am extremely honored, extremely humbled by the opportunity, and excited for the chance to serve in this incredible role—especially following somebody who’s done so many transformational things for the school in Dr. Mullen.

I’ve been fortunate to serve Trinity in a variety of roles—from teaching and coaching to activities director, director of admissions, and Vice President for Advancement. These experiences allowed me to understand many different aspects of the school. I’ve also worked closely with faculty, staff, the senior team, the school board, the foundation board, and alumni boards. All of this gave me the confidence to apply for the position.”

Although Mr. Torra didn’t attend Trinity as a student, he holds a deep respect for those who have. He stated, “I tell people all the time—students like you, alumni, others who had the chance to graduate from Trinity—I’m extremely jealous, because I didn’t have that opportunity.” Mr. Torra grew up in Pittsfield, a small town in western Massachusetts. He attended public school through middle and high school, then went on to Keene State College in New Hampshire, where he earned degrees in biology and secondary education.

“I was able to play basketball for four years there. It’s a Division III school. After graduating, I did student teaching, started substitute teaching, and then landed a job teaching and coaching on the seacoast of New Hampshire. I taught science—biology, physical science, anatomy—and served as head basketball coach for two years.”

Looking ahead to his start on July 1st, Mr. Torra shared his appreciation for the continued support of his predecessor.

“After dedicating more than 40 years to Trinity’s Mission, Dr. Mullen has graciously agreed to stay on in a new position as Vice President of Mission. He’ll remain connected to Trinity’s continued growth while serving as a mentor during the transition, for which I’m very grateful.  July 1st will be my first official day as President.”

Before applying for his new position, Mr. Torra made sure to have open and honest conversations with his family.

“Before I even applied, we had a family discussion to make sure everyone felt comfortable with the idea. Our daughter will be entering high school soon, so I wanted to be sure they were fully on board. I told them, ‘If you’re not comfortable, that’s okay—I don’t have to apply.’ But we had in-depth conversations, and in the end, they didn’t just support me—they encouraged me to go for it.”

In summary, Mr. Torra’s path to becoming the new president of Trinity High School showcases his steadfast commitment and diverse expertise. Starting from his roots in Western Massachusetts to his broad career in education and leadership, he has repeatedly shown commitment to development, guidance, and fostering community. His profound admiration for Trinity’s heritage, along with his desire to motivate and assist students, creates an environment for a promising future with his guidance. By motivating students to seize every chance and put forth their best effort, Mr. Torra represents a success vision based on unity, purpose, and the life-changing impact of education. As Trinity embraces its new president, the community can anticipate a leader who is not only dedicated to excellence but also profoundly engaged in the principles that distinguish Trinity High School.
