The Debate Rocks kicked off their season last Saturday with an exciting, high-stakes tournament. Three Public Forum teams competed in a special section of the Wyatt Debate League’s September tournament, where the top two teams from two different schools earned a trip to compete in China.
Earning awards for the Rocks were Charlie Ellingsworth – 10th best speaker; Oscar Cardoza – 8th best speaker; and Xander Leavell – 6th best speaker.
In the match to determine which team would go to China, the partnership of sophomore Chase Wissing and freshman Zayden Wright resoundingly defeated Oldham County on a 3-0 decision. The trip to China is sponsored by Sister Cities and includes a fully immersive experience in China’s cultural city of Chengdu.
Trinity also placed 4th on a tiebreaker for overall sweepstakes.
