There will be a familiar yet new face in the halls of Trinity High School this year, as Mr. Jay Gast begins his first year of teaching at Trinity.
For Mr. Gast, coming to Trinity is more than just starting a new job – it’s a return to the halls he once walked as a student. “I loved coming to school here and I had an opportunity to come work here, and I had to take it,” Gast said. “I love the brotherhood of Trinity.”
After graduating from Trinity in 1999, Mr. Gast went on to work in sales. While working in sales, he watched his wife get into teaching, which inspired him to pursue a career in education. He went back to school and earned a master’s degree in teaching. Now that he is back at Trinity, he is excited to make an impact at the school that helped shape him.
“Building relationships with students is something I like and getting to know students and learning different cultures and backgrounds,” said Gast. Mr. Gast is involved in many different things at Trinity that will allow him to make an impact. “I’m part of the STEM club, so I’m looking forward to doing STEM stuff and helping out with the bass fishing team.”
When he’s not teaching, Mr. Gast enjoys many different hobbies. “My favorite hobby is wakeboarding and anything to do with cars.” He also enjoys problem-solving and puzzles, which connect to his love for math. Gast said, “I like math because there is one right answer and knowing that I can get to one solution is good.”
As he continues his transition from middle school to Trinity, Mr. Gast is ready to make an impact. Regarding his goals for this year, he said, “I want to make connections with students and encourage students to find joy in math and find success throughout the year.”
As he looks back at what Trinity gave him when he was a student, Mr. Gast is ready to make that same impact on students today. Welcome back to Trinity, Mr. Gast!
