Trinity seniors Thomas Beyerle and Blake Merkley have been recognized by the National Merit Scholarship program as semifinalists. They were among the approximately 16,000 semifinalists in the 59th annual National Merit Scholarship Program this fall.
These academically talented students will continue in the competition for 8,200 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $36 million.
Three Trinity seniors were named National Merit commended students: Eric Elder, Mark Hines and Jared Manning.
Senior Kobe Qualah was honored as an Outstanding Participant in the National Achievement Scholarship Program.
Qualah scored in the top three percent of more than 160,000 African Americans who requested consideration in the 2014 National Achievement Program when they took the 2012 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
The National Achievement Scholarship Program was initiated in 1964 specifically to honor academically promising African-American high school students.
The annual scholarship competition is conducted by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
