Sound familiar? You meet someone and you begin going out. You think things are great.
Suddenly, the relationship is over. Sound familiar?
We all go through heartbreak, but how do we handle heartbreak?
“I try talking to friends and that helps a little,” college student Grant Young said.
One thing you might wonder: Is there any way to make the shattered feeling go away?
“Time can resolve some of the feelings,” said Mike Clark, a therapist at Valley View Church. “Talking about it with a counselor, friends or family — a close friend — can do so much.”
Clark said you should most definitely not isolate yourself. He said, “Be prepared for a broken heart; it happens to everyone.”
Some breakups are caused by circumstances. John Cerjak, a 2013 Trinity graduate, was separated from his girlfriend when college came along.
Cerjak said, “I had a tough time with the breakup, but I’m glad I went through with it in the long run. Being single in college is much easier. It makes meeting new people a lot easier.”
Many times a broken heart turns into something positive.
Trinity senior Drew Bledsoe was in a relationship that didn’t work out. “When I look back, I just knew the relationship wasn’t going to last,” Bledsoe said.
Bledsoe is now in a new relationship and says he is happy.
