Mike Magre ’83 honored
Trinity faculty member Mr. Mike Magre ’83 was honored at the annual St. Matthews Community Pride Breakfast at The Olmsted on Wednesday, Dec. 11. The event, sponsored by the St. Matthews Area Chamber of Commerce, pays tribute to individuals who have distinguished themselves by making extraordinary contributions to the community betterment through volunteer service. Honorees are selected by civic clubs and other organizations and institutions engaged primarily in community service.
A member of the Trinity High School Class of 1983, Magre returned to his alma mater to teach mathematics in August 1990 and has been a fixture there ever since. In addition to his full-time teaching duties, Magre also coached track and football in his long and distinguished career at Trinity, and now serves as one of the school’s eight counseling staff members.
Magre’s impact in the St. Matthews community extends beyond the walls of Trinity High School, as those students with whom he interacted over the years entered work and family life in the fabric of this city and beyond.
Magre began his 24th year at Trinity this past fall. Over the course of his career, he has served in many different capacities while at Trinity, including teaching Math, Psychology and Theology, coaching track and football, and serving in the Counseling Department. As a track-and-field head coach, Magre was a finalist for the NHSACA National Track Coach of the Year.
Magre currently serves as one of the sophomore counselors at Trinity. He is the head freshman football coach, an assistant track coach, serves as chair of Trinity’s Anti-Bullying Committee and is a mentor for Patrick House in Trinity’s House System.
Additionally, Magre also is a member of Trinity’s Saint Sebastian Society. The St. Sebastian Society, named after the patron saint of athletes, works in conjunction with Campus Ministry and coaches to promote the spiritual formation of the diverse teams and clubs at Trinity.
Magre and his wife, LeAnn, have two children, Lacy, 14, and Trey, 10. They are active members of St. Albert the Great Catholic Church.
