Matthew Gaudin achieves rank of Eagle Scout
Trinity junior Matthew Gaudin will achieve the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America at a ceremony to be held Jan. 26. Gaudin is a member of Troop 175 at St. Edward Catholic Church. For his Eagle Scout Service Leadership project, Gaudin coordinated a work crew that cleaned, painted and upgraded the St. Edward Child Development Center.
Quick recall wraps up league play
The Trinity quick recall teams wrapped up league play as both the varsity and JV suffered losses to St. Xavier. The JV team was close in knowledge but too slow for St X’s captain. The varsity team trailed 20-7 at the half but rallied behind the efforts of seniors Max Brown and Eric Elder to close the lead to 28-26 with three questions to go. St. X answered them and won 30-26.
Trinity debate team shines

The Trinity debate team competed in two different tournaments with every debater claiming an award. Junior Pedro Sanchez-Villa and sophomore Jorge Rojas-Ortega represented the Rocks at the Wilson Wyatt Debate League at Waggener. Sanchez-Villa was named third-best speaker in Varsity Lincoln-Douglas Debate, and Rojas-Ortega was named best speaker in Varsity Lincoln-Douglas Debate.
In their first outing as a team, the varsity Public Forum team of seniors John Moremen and Jackson Rice claimed third place in the Trinity/North Oldham Press Your Luck Invitational. The team’s third-place also earned a third in the overall debate sweepstakes points.
Rocks can March for Life in Louisville
Next week will mark the anniversary of the Supreme Court’s ruling on abortion in Roe vs. Wade. While the national March for Life takes place in Washington D.C., there will be a local March for Life for youth in Louisville on Wednesday, Jan. 22, at 4:30. The local walk will include a 1.5 mile prayer walk, followed by a pizza dinner. Students who would like to participate, should see Mr. Chris Luken in T215.

Basketball
* The Rocks (12-2) won their first-round game in the Louisville Invitational Tournament Jan. 15, defeating DeSales 60-45. Junior guard Daniel Ramser led the way for the Rocks with 13 points. Trinity sprinted to a 17-5 lead and never looked back. Trinity will take on No. 10 Iroquois in the headline game at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17. A win will propel them into Saturday morning’s semifinal game.
* The basketball Rocks (11-2) defeated rival St. Xavier at Freedom Hall by a score of 64-56 in front of an estimated 7,000 fans. Ivory netted 24 points and Spalding added 17 points and 15 rebounds as the Rocks used a 17-0 run in the third quarter to pull away from the Tigers. Craig Owens and Michael Stafford also played important roles as Trinity defeated the Tigers for the eighth time in nine games.
* Trinity defeated Muhlenberg County High School by a score of 55-34 in the 1st Security Bank of Kentucky New Year’s Bash. Ivory had 18 points and four steals, and Spalding had six points and six rebounds for the top-five-ranked Rocks (10-2).
* The freshman basketball Rocks ran their record to 11-2 on the year this past Friday with a victory over St. Xavier. Jacob King’s 14 points and David Burton’s 10 points helped the Rocks cruise to a 42-30 victory. Lukas Burkman, Brendan King and the Smith twins all contributed as well as the Rocks raced out to early leads and kept the Tigers at bay.
* The JV basketball Rocks put forth a solid effort but ultimately fell to the JV Tigers 50-40. Sophomores Isiah Knight and Nathan Rose led the way for the Rocks as Christian Terry, Burton and Jacob King also played well.
Bowling
* The bowling team defeated Ballard 5-2 on Jan. 14. After being tied at 2-2, the Bruins swept both Baker games and the series point to take the win. In the 200 Club for the Rocks were Elijah Donohue (232, 204), Conor Minogue (225), Justin Wiech (216) and Ken Lucas (201).
* The Rocks were seeded second in the opening round of the Pleasure Ridge Park Invitational but came out the winner. They were led by Quintin Wright (245), Minogue (234) and Brian Toth (221).
The Rocks defeated Fern Creek and St. X to roll into the winners bracket final against No. 1-seed Bullitt Central. The Rocks ran into a buzz saw and dropped to the losers bracket by scores of 233-177 and 214-173. The Rocks then defeated host PRP to get into the final match against Bullitt Central. The Rocks needed to beat Bullitt Central two out of three games twice to win.
The Rocks defeated them 210-173 and 225-198 to set up the championship. The Rocks bested them again, 224-191 and 176-165, to take home the first-place trophy.
Ice Hockey
The ice hockey team tamed the Tigers of St. Xavier 12-0. Goals were scored by Ryan Cywinski, Parker Robinson, Ryan Gustafson, Taylor Burdorf, Ramsey Mayne, Nick Mueller, Reed Campana, Aydin Metel, and Calvin Todd.
Swimming/Diving
The swim & dive Rocks traveled across the river and defeated New Albany Jan. 14. Leading the way for the Rocks were seniors Chris Parrill and Michael Gilligan, with each capturing two individual event victories. Solid swims were turned in by all in a total team effort.
The team will host its annual Rock the Block meet at the University of Louisville for Sacred Heart Academy. The proceeds go to breast cancer research. The meet will begin at 5 p.m.
Football
Trinity senior and quarterback for the Rocks Reggie Bonnafon earned honorable mention on the Associated Press Kentucky High School All-State Team, as selected by 15 media representatives from across the state.
