Wiech second in regional singles, qualifies for state

Four members of Trinity’s bowling team competed against 36 other bowlers in the KHSAA Region 4 State Singles Bowling Tournament. The competitors bowled three games to get the field down to eight. The Rocks bowled as follows: Conor Minogue (168, 297, 198– 663 series), Elijah Donohue (228, 224, 207—661), Justin Wiech (259, 192, 199—650) and Quintin Wright (188, 224, 168—580).

Minogue, Donohue  and Wiech qualified for the round of eight. After two more games, the field was cut to four with Wiech still standing as a No. 2 seed. Wiech reached the finals before losing 219-202. Wiech will represent the Rocks in the State Singles Championship Feb. 13 at Eastland Bowling Center in Lexington.  

Minogue said, “Justin is in the state individual competition this year. I’m glad he gets the opportunity. I think this is really a chance for him to stand up and show people what he can do.”

ICE HOCKEY

The hockey team lost to Oldham County 5-2 on Feb. 7. Goals were scored by Mitch Wise and Ryan Gustafson, who set a team record by scoring his 50th goal of the season.  The Rocks rebounded Sunday and tied Oldham 3-3. Goals were scored by Conor Byrne, Ben Huls and Nick Mueller.

BASKETBALL

Last night the No. 3-ranked basketball Rocks sprinted out to a 22-7 first-quarter lead behind solid defense and efficient offense. The Rocks controlled the game while knocking off the No. 15 Elizabethtown Panthers.  E’town was previously undefeated at home before the Rocks came to town. 

Trey Ivory netted 18 points as he sliced through the defense all night, finishing at the rim and kicking to various shooters, among them Daniel Ramser and Jax Levitch.  Ray Spalding finished with 16 points and 7 rebounds, and KelShawn Knight-Goff also gave the Rocks strong minutes. 

SOCCER SIGNINGS

Trinity High School seniors Ian Logsdon (St. Catherine University), Ryan Payne (Northern Kentucky University),  Jacob Dickerson (Southern Indiana University), Jacob Gantt (Transylvania University, Division III), Dinho Zwane (Temple University) and Kobie Qualah (Northern Kentucky University) signed national letters of intent to participate in collegiate athletics at a ceremony held Feb. 12 at Trinity.
