TRACK & FIELD
This past weekend the Trinity track and field team faced some of the area’s best competition at St. X’s Borgia/Cooper Invitational. The upstart Rocks walked away almost stealing the first-place trophy from the Tigers. The Shamrocks started strongly when the senior foursome of Devon Little, Andrew Ireland, Nick Eckert and Nick Finney ran a state-leading time in the 3,200 relay.
The Rocks got huge efforts from their pole vaulters — J.B. Boyle and Cody Swabek — who came in first and second. Swabek had an all-around day with his pole vault second, a fourth in the hurdles, a second in the high jump, and a first in the long jump.
Junior Adam King took third in the shot put and a second in the discus, while sophomore Santo Biddix continued his meteoric rise with huge long and triple jumps. With only five weeks left in the season, the Rocks are poised to make a run at regional and state crowns.
BASEBALL
* The varsity baseball Rocks tamed the Waggener Wildcats 22-1 in a district battle Wednesday. The Rocks pounded out 13 hits and were led by Tyler Neeley’s three doubles. Cameron Ridge, Nathan Fichter and Patrick Smith pitched and held the Wildcats to only two hits. Next up for the Rocks is Male in the Louisville Invitational Tournament. Game time is Thursday (Apr. 24) evening at 6 p.m. at Male.
* The Rocks ran their record to .500 at 10-10 with a big district win over the Seneca Redhawks. The Rocks pounded out 13 hits and scored 13 runs in defeating the Redhawks 13-0.
Leading the offense for Trinity was Logan Porter, who connected on a fourth inning three-run blast over the left field fence to give Trinity a commanding lead.
Paxton Rousseau picked up his third win of the season as he pitched a complete game and gave up only four hits while the defense played error-free baseball.
RUGBY
The Trinity rugby team defeated Atherton 34-17. The man of the match was Ryan Burianek. The rugby team will be back in action this Saturday at 1:30 at Cherokee Park against Genesee Rugby from Michigan, and following the game the University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville will play.
POWERLIFTERS
After school tomorrow (Apr. 25) the Rocks will hold their first annual Trinity Strongman Competition. Events will include farmer’s walks, ground to overhead, tire flips, and bench press. Other possible events are truck pulls and Atlas stones. This event will be a first of its kind at Trinity.
