As the wrestling Rocks head into regional action this weekend, let’s take a minute and talk to two guys who get little recognition outside the team.

Managers Marcus Walker and Travis Zaremba help the Rocks by taking on jobs most don’t want to do.  The work they do allows the coaches time to work with the team. Assistant coach Ken Ellenbrand agreed.  He said, “The managers do everything that I don’t want to do, like wrap, record and clean.”

A manager’s job during practice is to make sure the mats are ready. They also put cleaning liquid on a rug so wrestlers can clean their feet and not get the mat dirty or spread disease.

At the end of practice they clean the mats again to prevent the spread of germs between practices. During meets, manager’s videotape the matches so the team can find ways to improve.

Walker, a sophomore, said he manages “for the ring and for the experience.”

Sophomore Zaremba explained why he decided to become a manager:  “I couldn’t wrestle this year because I hurt my leg, and I love to help out my team.”
