Trinity Alumnus Featured in CBS Sports Documentary

A CBS Sports documentary about Nate Northington, who became the first African-American football player in the SEC as a Kentucky Wildcat in 1967, includes an interview with Trinity alumnus and Hall of Fame member Mr. Jack Guthrie ’58.

The documentary – “Forward Progress: The Integration of SEC Football” – explored Northington’s arrival at UK and its impact at both the SEC and national level. It aired Monday, Feb. 16, at 8 p.m.

Guthrie, who described his part in the documentary as “a small role,” served as editor in chief of the Kentucky Kernel in 1963 and worked with the ECHO while at Trinity. He praised CBS Sports for their work and expressed pride in the role UK played in recruiting African-American athletes.

The documentary is scheduled to air again later this month on   TWC channel 531.
