Trinity’s new Director, Sports Ministry Mr. Gary Owens ’88

English teacher and coach Mr. Gary Owens was named Trinity’s new Director, Sports Ministry.

In an announcement today Athletics Director Mr. Rob Saxton said, “It is my pleasure to announce Gary Owens ’88 as Director, Sports Ministry.  Gary will assume the role vacated by the passing of our friend and colleague Steven Tompkins ’81.  Steven originated this important role at Trinity in 2014.  Gary will continue the efforts performed well by Steven, working with our external partner, SportsLeader (Virtue = Strength), and will add his own unique talents and ideas to the position. (In fact, Gary has already led a couple of initiatives with our cross country and soccer teams).

“Gary joined the faculty and coaching ranks at Trinity in 1997, after graduating from the University of Louisville with bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Gary teaches English and has coached both basketball and football at Trinity, including 20 years on the varsity football coaching staff. I was fortunate to coach Trinity basketball alongside Gary for some of those years.  He and his wife Beth have three children: Patrick ’20; Nicholas ’22 and Allison.

“Gary’s deep faith in Christ, his love for family and his passion for Trinity will serve our young men, coaches and families very well in Sports Ministry.

“Please join me in thanking and congratulating Gary on this next step in his faith and his career at Trinity.”
