The lacrosse Rocks, who finished as state runner-up to St. Xavier last year, defeated the Tigers 16-9 on Mar. 29.  That was one of the Rocks’ five wins against three losses.

The team next travels to Carmel, Ind., Apr. 14 to take on the Greyhounds.  The 5-0 JV team takes on St. Xavier Apr. 13 at home.

The Rocks have played a schedule thus far that includes Kentucky, North Carolina, Missouri, Indiana and Tennessee.

We’ve made a lot of progress, and we know that we’re going to have to compete. We weren’t happy with the outcome of last season, and we’re all itching to get back out there. We’re all getting better one step at a time and hoping to get that state title back.

Before the season, 22-year head coach Pete Schroeder commented on the Athletics page: “We return a number of key players from last season, while we’re excited for new players to emerge and take on more substantial roles. We have another challenging schedule with plenty of opponents who will keep us on the edge of our comfort zone. The level of play in the Louisville area continues to progress. We have a lot of work to do, but we expect to field a team that can compete for and win a state title in 2023. We welcome that challenge!”

A couple of seniors concurred: Lucas Osborn stated, “I know the team is excited for this upcoming season. We’ve made a lot of progress, and we know that we’re going to have to compete. We weren’t happy with the outcome of last season, and we’re all itching to get back out there. We’re all getting better one step at a time and hoping to get that state title back.”

Clay Krutsinger also emphasized the team’s preparation: “I am really looking forward to the upcoming season! We are working hard and trying to get better every single day knowing it’s going to pay off when the season comes around. We have a good group of seniors ready to lead and a ton of young, talented players that will have a big impact on the success of our team. We’re looking forward to our challenging schedule and working towards our main goal of a state championship!”
