Track Rocks Gaining Momentum

ECHO Staff

The track Rocks are building momentum before spring break, competing today at Fairdale in the All Comers Meet and on Thursday, Mar. 30, at Waggener in the Wildcat Relays.

Coming off a fifth in the Class 3A Region last year, the team is looking to make major strides this season, according to head coach John Barbagallo: “With many of our team members coming back as sophomores, juniors, and seniors, and a host of talented freshman that ran cross country this past fall, our team looks to finish higher at our regional track meet in May.  This will lead to more qualifiers for the state meet.”

Preseason excitement ran high among team leaders. According to senior Jordan McIntyre, “The goal this year is to win regionals and ultimately state.  I think we have the tools and personnel on our roster to help us accomplish our goals in the sprints and jumps.  We also have a distance team full of talented underclassmen runners.”

Senior Peyton Lomax echoed those sentiments: “I’m excited for what our team has the potential to accomplish this upcoming season. Our coaching staff for distance runners is pushing us with new and improved training schedules. Our underclassmen are talented and will add a lot of depth to our roster.”

Sophomore Eli Oetken concurred: “I’m really excited to start this season alongside all these promising distance runners. Can’t wait to see where this season takes us!”
