Located less than half a mile from Trinity High School is a small restaurant called Lou Lou Food and Drink. Specializing in Cajun cuisine, they emphasize seafood in nearly every dish. Each plate is served in generous portions, offering great value for the price. These large servings are perfect if you’re starving or want leftovers for the next day.

The Crab Cake

  • It came out of the kitchen quickly and with excellent presentation. Served alongside grilled vegetables and a chili hollandaise sauce, the dish had a beautifully balanced flavor.

  • Cutting into the cake, you’re met with a crisp, golden crust that provides great texture, complementing the soft, moist interior. They don’t skimp on the crab—you get flavor in every bite.

  • Great balance of flavor and texture.

  • Overall: 8/10 – However, it was the only dish that lacked a large portion, offering just one crab cake.

The Bayou Dip

  • This dish also arrived quickly. Unlike the crab cake, the Bayou Dip was massive—easily enough to feed four or five people. It includes cream cheese, roasted chicken, jalapeños, and green chilies, served with pita bread. The first thing I noticed was the thick, golden crust on top, which not only looked appealing but added a burst of flavor.

  • It’s a very heavy cream cheese dish. Despite the inclusion of jalapeños and chilis, the flavor was a bit underwhelming. The cream cheese dominated, though the texture was excellent.

  • At $16, it’s a bit lacking in flavor, but the portion size helps justify the price for a group.

  • Overall: 6.8/10

Jambalaya

  • The jambalaya came out quickly and at a perfect temperature. It’s served with a side of dirty rice, which was perfectly seasoned. The dish includes sausage, crawfish, and rice, delivering a hearty portion of protein sure to satisfy.

  • The broth blends wonderfully with the rice, stewed vegetables, and proteins, creating a delicious harmony of flavors. Even so, each ingredient stands out with its own distinct taste. When eaten together, the combination explodes with flavor—balanced and never overwhelming.

  • Overall: 8/10

Louisiana Redfish

  • What can I say? This dish was absolutely incredible—the best thing I tasted all night. Served with a side of grits, the texture was immaculate when paired with the fish. It arrived promptly and was beautifully plated.

  • The fish was crispy on the outside, soft and tender on the inside, and cooked to perfection. The Tasso ham and grits were rich and flavorful, while the vegetables were well-seasoned and perfectly cooked.

  • Overall: 9/10

This restaurant exceeded my expectations. Each dish was delicious and reasonably priced for the portion size. The service was outstanding—our server consistently checked to make sure we had everything we needed. I would recommend Lou Lou Food and Drink to anyone who will listen.
