1972 diploma presented · Following the Class of 2013’s baccalaureate Mass, senior Brady DeWitt’s family took part in a presentation of a 1972 diploma to the sister of Sam Hazelwood, Norma Merrick. Hazelwood died a few years after graduation and had not previously received his diploma. Merrick, whom the DeWitt’s consider an adopted grandmother, received the diploma dated May 18, 1972, and signed by then assistant principal Bob Pfaadt and principal Rev. Thomas Duerr. Students see Dalai Lama · Trinity students were among the students who attended the Dalai Lama’s talk on May 21. Zarick wins Adams Scholarship · Trinity junior Michael Zarick won the Jim Adams Scholarship short story competition. His “Letters for a Better Tomorrow” edged runner-up Patrick Muller’s “Moments of a Day.” Investment Club competition results announced · The results of the Trinity Investment Club competition are in. The team of Sam Schafer, Alex Edens, Grant Brown and Josh Drake came out on top with a 14.3 percent return on their investments from late February to early May. The team earned $14, 300 on its $100,000 initial investment. Best Commercial selected · Once again Mr. Chad Waggoner’s communication skills classes demonstrated excellence in advertising media in his annual Communication Skills Best Commercial Competition. This year’s winner was comprised of the marketing team of sophomores Ryan Trefes, John Callahan, Brennan Davis and Raymond Dibaya for its advertisement for Delta Airlines. Senior wins art awards · Senior Bryan Nieto-Valtierra placed first in the General Federation of Women’s Clubs of Kentucky art competition for his printmaking design and placed third for his drawing. Ascension scholarship given in Trinity senior’s name · Ascension’s School Board decided to award an annual scholarship to one of their returning students to help defray tuition costs. The Board is doing this in Trinity senior Cullen Bilyeu’s name. Bilyeu was described by Ascension Principal Mary Jo Ellis as “currently establishing the criteria for this scholarship that will be determined in large part on the ways the student gives back to this community. He will also be involved in the selection process. Cullen has been a phenomenal asset to Ascension, and this is a way the Board felt we could recognize him and foster further student investment in Ascension. This will be presented at our end-of-the-year awards Mass on May 23.”
