Trinity announces new head soccer coach Trinity High School has named Dale Helfrich as varsity head coach for the soccer team. Helfrich has been serving as a Trinity assistant soccer coach. He succeeds Barry Swearingen who stepped down after a successful stint as head coach. Coach Barry Swearingen will remain with the team, serving as an assistant coach. Helfrich has a distinguished background in the soccer coaching ranks and brings an incredible amount of experience to Trinity High School. His experience includes the following: · general manager of the Thoroughbreds Soccer Club (2002-12) · assistant soccer coach at the University of Louisville (2000-03) · assistant soccer coach at Western Kentucky University (1997-99) · coaching director with Kentucky Fire Juniors (2012-present) · holds the highest coaching license available in the United States as a USSF “A” licensed coach · holds the NSCAA Advanced National Diploma · head coach at Brescia College (1995-97) · head coach at Kentucky Wesleyan College (1993-95) · holds a master’s degree in physical education from Western Kentucky University Additionally, Helfrich has been the Region II Olympic Development Program Staff Coach for the United States Soccer Federation from 2003 to the present. In this role, Helfrich selects, coaches and trains the top Olympic Development Program prospective youth players within the 14-state member region for selection to the U.S. National Team. “I am extremely honored and humbled that Trinity High School has selected me as their next head soccer coach,” Helfrich said. “Not being a Louisville native, it did not take me long to learn about the outstanding tradition of Trinity High School and their soccer program. Everything the school does is first-class, and the student body does a great job of supporting all of its programs. I cannot wait to get started working with the student-athletes next fall and help to carry on the outstanding tradition of Trinity High School.” Rocks dance team ready for Pink and White game The sixth annual Pink and White game will be played Apr. 26 at St. Xavier at 7:30 p.m. As you The game is a collaboration between four Catholic schools – two traditional rivalries – Trinity vs. St. X and Sacred Heart vs. Assumption – but for this night, the schools come together for one cause — the fight against breast cancer. All proceeds from this game go to the Norton Cancer Institute Breast Health Program. Darryl Hicks ’13, James Quick ’13 named to All-State basketball team Trinity seniors Darryl Hicks and James Quick have been named to the All-State basketball team. Hicks was named to the first team and Quick to the second. A repeat first-team All-State player, Hicks was a consistent standout on both ends of the court on one of the state’s best teams. He averaged 16 points and 5.3 rebounds for Trinity (28-6). Darryl Hicks ’13 signs national letter of intent Trinity High School senior Darryl Hicks signed a national letter of intent to play basketball at Boston College. A 2012 and 2013 first-team All-State player, Hicks was a consistent standout on both ends of the court on of the state’s best teams. He averaged 16 points and 5.3 rebounds for Trinity (28-6). “We are all so happy for Darryl and his family,” Trinity head basketball coach Mike Szabo said. “His efforts in the classroom and on the court at Trinity have been outstanding. It’s very rewarding as his coach to see all that hard work pay off for him. Darryl will play college basketball at the highest level in the ACC and combine that experience with a first-class degree from Boston College — what a great opportunity.” Miles Rice ’13 to sign national letter of intent Trinity High School senior Miles Rice will sign a national letter of intent May 1 to play basketball at Campbellsville University. A four-year varsity player, Rice averaged 8.5 points and 3.4 rebounds his senior year for Trinity (28-6). “Miles has been a player that has always been willing to do whatever was needed to help the team win,” Szabo said. “He has played multiple positions and has been a major reason for our team’s success. Miles is a skilled player and very athletic. He was our team’s leader in steals as well as assists, making his presence felt at both ends of the floor. His hard work on the court and in the classroom has earned him a full scholarship, and he will play in the best NAIA conference in the country. I am so proud and so happy for Miles and his family.” Track team second in Borgia/Cooper Invitational The track Rocks ended the weekend with a trophy from the Borgia/Cooper Invitational meet at St. Xavier. The Rocks took second place. Devon Little had a personal best time, taking more than 20 seconds off his previous time for the 3,200 . Little placed fourth. James Quick and Donald Brooks placed in the top five for both the 100-meter and 200-meter races. Blake Merkley, Kyle Smith and Nick Eckert each scored in three events. J.B. Boyle took fourth place in the pole vault, freshman Santo Biddix made the finals in both the long jump and triple jump and ran legs in the 400 and 800 relays. Ultimate Frisbee Ultimate Frisbee preliminary round play continued with junior and senior matches with the following results: Logsdon defeated Tolsdorf; Hines 9, Cox 2; King 12, Smith 1; Fahy 5, Ullum 2; Wileman defeated Martin; Wileman 9, Fahy 5; O’Daniel defeated Edlin; Nalley 7, Whitehead 3. A few more matches remain before tournament play begins with the seniors taking the center stage. Intramural Volleyball Anderson’s team took on Mason’s team in a hard-fought match. Mason’s team came out victorious. At the same time, Old School was taking on Smith’s team in a point-for-point battle. Old School was one player short, and Smith’s team did a great job finding that hole on the court. Also, Mr. Keith Rapp wasn’t there to heckle Smith’s team. So as you may have guessed, Smith’s team took the victory. To round out the afternoon, Winrich’s team played Burba’s team in an intense match. Winrich’s team managed to score more points and took the match. The winner of the match between Mason’s and Winrich’s teams plays Smith’s team in the finals. The freshman-sophomore division finals feature Wilson’s team against Shellenberg’s team. Trinity Scores Baseball · Trinity fell to St. Xavier by a score of 2-0 on Apr. 15 at Louisville Slugger Field. · On Apr. 16, Atherton defeated the Rocks 4-3. · Trinity blanked East Jessamine County by a score of 10-0 on April 22. The Rocks also shut out Seneca 10-0 on Apr. 23. · On Apr. 25, the Rocks fell to PRP 9-0 in the Louisville Invitational Tournament.
