Powerlifting This past weekend Trinity’s powerlifters competed in the N.A.S.A. High School National Powerlifting Championships in Oklahoma City. All lifters had outstanding performances, including several new personal bests and individual national championships. The hard work culminated in a team national championship in power sports, which combines the bench press, deadlift and bicep curl, and powerlifting, which combines bench press, deadlift and squat. Congratulations go to team members David Dirr, Pacman Hirwa, Alex Lancaster, Chris Tipton, Zach Berger, Adam King and Garrett Morris. A special thanks and congrats go to seniors Michael Hanlein, Mason Sullivan, John Fawbush, John Zehnder and Lance Kaufman. Bass Fishing The Kentucky High School Athletics Association Region 2 Bass Fishing Team Tournament was held this past Sunday on Taylorsville Lake. Forty-four teams launched in pre-dawn hours hoping for a chance to qualify for Kentucky’s first state championship in the sport of bass fishing. Trinity sent six teams to this inaugural event. Three of the six teams qualified to move forward to the two-day state tournament on Apr. 26-27. The state tournament competitors will be launched each day from the Kenlake ramp on Kentucky Lake. In its first year in this KHSAA sport, the Rocks are sending more representatives to the state tournament than any other school in Region 2, including all other schools in the greater Louisville area. The top qualifying team for the Rocks– comprised of Brendan Christ and Trevor Hulsey– finished in second with three fish and a total weight of 7 lbs 10 oz. Their boat captain was Trinity grad Mark Stowe. Finishing in sixth place with one fish weighing 4 lbs. 6 oz. was the team of Andrew Mitchell and Will O’Rourke. Their boat captain was Trinity grad Drew Dickerson. Finishing in seventh place was the team of Tanner Nettleship and Kyle Muennich, weighing in two fish with a total of 4 lbs. Their boat captain, another THS grad, was Lance Nettleship, Tanner’s father. The Trinity bass fishing team is coached by Mr. Mike Chancellor.
