The top-ranked Trinity basketball Rocks took a huge step forward Wednesday night as they knocked off Central 52-41 in the semifinals of the Seventh Region tournament to set up a Saturday afternoon showdown against No. 2 Ballard, with a trip to the Sweet 16 on the line. The Rocks relied on their defense in the first half as the game went into the locker room with the score tied 16-16. Trinity came out of the halftime break ready to take control of the game and went on an 11-2 run to jump ahead to double digit leads in the second half, while holding off Central rallies. Trey Ivory led the Rocks with 15 points as Darryl Hicks added 14. James Quick and Miles Rice’s defensive efforts, and senior leadership helped erase any hope the Yellowjackets had. The Shamrock team defense held Central to just 30 percent shooting for the game. The Rocks vie for their fourth regional title this Saturday at 2 p.m. at Valley High School. * The Trinity basketball team took its next step in defense of their Seventh Region crown as they dismantled the Eastern Eagles by a score of 54-32. The Rocks rode their defense to a 23-7 halftime lead. Eastern managed just one point in the second quarter. Rice’s two three-pointers in the third quarter helped extend the Trinity lead and seal the victory for the Rocks. Hicks added 13 points as Craig Owens added 8 points and 7 rebounds.
