Trinity Sports Notes: Wrestling: The wrestling team finished the 2013 season with a sixth place in the state tournament. Five Rocks placed at state: two-time State Champion Bobby Bryant at heavyweight, Hudson Heidoerf (fourth, 126), Ian Kahl (fifth, 138), Clayton Smith (sixth, 152) and Keegan Duncan (seventh, 120). Hockey: The ice hockey Rocks honored their seniors and defeated the St. Xavier Tigers 8-1. Senior Jack Wise scored two goals, senior Gavin Gleeson scored two goals, and senior Jake Rosenfeld scored one goal. This Sunday, the Rocks will travel to Owensboro, and then play in the state tournament beginning Friday, Mar. 1. · The Pennsylvania Interscholastic Hockey League (PIHL) will host the prestigious America’s Showcase for Hockey this April. The Showcase is designed to allow high school hockey players from around the country the opportunity to compete against the best of the best during this five-day period with the prospect of being seen by every major hockey institution in North America. The following players from Trinity High School are invited to attend this event: Taylor Burdorf, Jake Kulas, Ramsey Mayne, and Wise. Basketball: The Trinity basketball team won the 27th District tournament by defeating Seneca 72-36. Thanks to an outstanding defensive effort from the very first possession, Trinity held the Redhawks to just 16 points in the first half as Seneca struggled to score the entire night. The Shamrocks ball movement in the first half led to open looks as they jumped out to early leads and never looked back. Darryl Hicks led the team in scoring with 21 points as James Quick, Sam Strothman, Miles Rice and Trey Ivory also led the Rocks’ offensive game. Trinity will defend their 7th Region title next week as the tournament begins Monday at Valley High School. · The No. 1-ranked Trinity basketball Rocks began their 7th region and state title defense with a district tournament victory over the Atherton Rebels. Once again, the Rocks rode their defense to a 79-56 victory that saw Trinity turn Atherton over 27 times. Quick had 16 points and 7 steals as Hicks led all scorers with 21 points. Volleyball: The volleyball team is beginning tryouts starting next week with coach Paul Diehl.
