Two win awards at Wilson Wyatt League Debate Tournament Speech and Debate team members Jorge Rojas-Ortega and Pedro Sanchez-Villa competed in the Wilson Wyatt League Debate Tournament. Sanchez-Villa was awarded First Place Speaker, and Rojas-Ortega is the JV Lincoln-Douglas debate champion. Academic team fifth in Governor’s Cup regional The Trinity academic team competed in the Regional Governor’s Cup tournament. The FPS team of Zach Bicket, Max Brown, Jonah Donze and Nick Hagerman placed fifth. The quick recall team of Ori Youngblood, Brown, Eric Elder and Sean Link, plus subs Bill Fenton, Chris Collins and Evan Welch, placed fourth. In individual testing, Ori Youngblood placed sixth in Science, missing advancing to state by one question. Fenton also placed sixth, tying the fifth-place finisher, but he missed advancing to state based on the tie-breaker questions. Mr. Mark Amick, Mr. Rob Seng, and Ms. Missy Clay would like to commend these young men for representing Trinity well. Chess Rocks third in region The chess Rocks placed third in regional play and will compete in the state championship on Mar. 2 at Trinity. Tyler Gob placed first in the Under 1,000 and unrated division. John Marcsik placed second overall, and Nick Termini placed eighth overall. Math Rocks continue testing Trinity’s math team will compete in the third competition of the Greater Louisville Math League at Eastern High School. In the Rocks’ district, Nick Finney and Jack Feger are running fifth and sixth, respectively, in the senior division, and Christopher Collins is holding onto second among sophomores and second overall.
