Travis Wright ’13 to play for FIU Trinity senior quarterback Travis Wright committed to Florida International University. Wright guided the Shamrocks to the past three Class 6-A state titles. He threw for 3,259 yards and 39 touchdowns in 2012, completing 64.2 percent of his passes. Trinity wins basketball district opener The No. 1-ranked Trinity basketball Rocks began their 7th region and state title defense with a district tournament victory over the Atherton Rebels. Once again, the Rocks rode their defense to a 79-56 victory that saw Trinity turn Atherton over 27 times. James Quick had 16 points and 7 steals as Darryl Hicks led all scorers with 21 points. The Rocks now advance to the district championship vs. Seneca, which will be held this Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Trinity. Senior wrestler named Republic Bank’s VYPE Magazine Student-Athlete of the Month Trinity wrestler Bobby Bryant ’13 was named the Republic Bank VYPE Magazine Student-Athlete of the Month for February. Two Rocks receive All-Star basketball invitations Trinity senior basketball standouts Darryl Hicks and James Quick are among the 73 players invited to try out for the Kentucky Lions Eye Foundation All-Star team. Thirty-five boys and 38 girls have been invited to the tryouts Mar. 23-24 at Georgetown College. The Kentucky All-Stars will face the Indiana All-Stars on June 14 in Freedom Hall and June 15 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Ice hockey Rocks blank Eastern The ice hockey Rocks trounced Eastern 12-0. Scoring two goals each were Jake Rosenfeld, Taylor Burdorf and Ramsey Mayne. Scoring one goal each were Ben Harmata, Mitch Wise, Jack Wise, Gavin Gleeson, Ryan Gustafson and Daniel Ryan. The team then lost to Cathedral Chatard 6-1, with the lone goal being scored by senior Jake Kulas. Sunday morning Brebeuf Jesuit outscored the Rocks 7-4. Scoring for the Rocks were Gustafson with two goals, and Gleeson and Mayne with one goal each.
